Artificial Retina from Human Cell

Tokyo: The researchers are supported by State Science Riken Institute in Kobe, Japan, creating an artificial retina from human embryonic stem cells. Retina was to create three-dimensional shapes, known as the eye cup.

As reported by NHK, the artificial retina that has a size of about five millimeters, the diameter and the zero point (zero-point) three millimeters thick. According to the researchers, the artificial retina may function to convert light stimuli into electrical stimulation from the outside.

Stimulation was delivered by the nerve cells that convey signals to the brain are visible in the form of layers. According to researchers, the findings may be a bright spot for the treatment of retinitis pigmentosa, a disease affecting tens of thousands of Japanese citizens.

Two years ago, Takashi Fujikado, scientists from Japan, also have made an artificial retina. He gave an artificial retina to two female patients suffering from retinal blindness [read: Japanese Find Artificial Retina]. (SHA)
